Last week I had superhero day at my sensory and movement class, and it was a big hit with the kids. Superhero day would not be complete unless we had capes! Purchasing 20+ capes from the party stores would be more than the budget allows. That is when I started to think about what I could use from the dollar store? Plastic tablecloths would be perfect because they come in a variety of colors, and they are inexpensive. They will tear if you pull on them, but the capes held up pretty well for our classes so I am happy with them and would use them again.

Step 1 Collect Materials
Materials Needed:
Sharpie Marker
Scissors
Circle Template (coffee lid worked perfectly)
Ruler
Plastic tablecloth (one package made 4 capes for preteens and adults)
Velcro dots
Step 2 Draw a 5 inch line
*Fold tablecloth and cut to desire length to fit.
Use ruler and sharpie to draw a 5 inch line.
Step 3 Trace circle
Place circular template at the top of your 5 inch line then trace circle for neckline.
Step 4 Cut & Velcro
Cut 5 inch line and circle out so you have two flaps. Have your kiddo place the cape over shoulders, and once it is fitted comfortable then you can add a Velcro dot to each flap. Close Velcro on front flaps to keep cape on while dancing or pretending to fly.
Superhero capes would be fun to make with your child on a rainy day. Enjoy the capes during a birthday party or a cookout. Superhero capes can help children expand their imaginative play skills. No matter what you decide to do have fun being a superhero!!!!
